Leading with Purpose, Rooted in Community
For more than 38 years, I’ve had the honor of working for KPEP’s Board of Directors. This independent and deeply committed group of leaders brings invaluable insight to our work—from strategic planning and financial oversight to the everyday governance that shapes and helps carry out our mission.
Our board reflects a strong partnership with the criminal justice system, including long-held appointments for the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor, Kalamazoo County Sheriff, City of Kalamazoo Police Chief, and Kalamazoo Township Police Chief. We also reserve board seats for a Michigan Department of Corrections Probation/Parole Supervisor and a Kalamazoo defense attorney. These perspectives are essential to ensuring our programs are aligned with the realities of the justice system and the needs of those we serve.
In addition to our law enforcement and legal representatives, we’re fortunate to have board members from the finance, banking, insurance, and architecture and construction industries. Each brings their own perspective and commitment to improving lives and strengthening our communities.
I’m deeply grateful for the time and wisdom each board member offers. They are true servant leaders.
A special thanks goes to Bryan Ergang, who recently stepped down from our board following his retirement as Chief of Police for Kalamazoo Township. Bryan served on the KPEP board since 2018 and was a steady, thoughtful voice throughout his tenure. He now serves as Deputy Director of the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police, and we wish him continued success in this new role. His predecessors, Chiefs Tim Bourgeois and Richard Butler, also served KPEP with distinction—Chief Butler having joined the board when we opened our Olmstead Road facility in 1995.
We’re pleased to welcome Chief Scott Jackson, who now leads the Kalamazoo Township Police Department and has stepped into the board role held by his three predecessors. Chief Jackson has served the Township for 25 years, and we’re grateful for his immediate willingness to continue this important tradition of leadership and collaboration.
On behalf of our staff and clients, I thank all our board members, past and present, for the experience, compassion, and professionalism they bring to KPEP.
