KPEP Community Residential Services

Community Residential Services (CRS) programming is a creative and proven holistic approach to address resident needs and criminogenic behaviors—and it’s a cornerstone of the work we do at KPEP.

CRS employs a variety of programs and services to meet the individual needs of each client. They include substance use disorder treatment, vocational training and other services focused on the development of employment skills, health, family reunification, obtaining a GED if needed, and obtaining and maintaining employment. Each client’s history and COMPAS scores are evaluated to determine cognitive behavioral based groups that would best meet their needs. Group topics focus on criminal thinking, self-control (anger management), family reunification, social values and peer relationships.

For clients who have a substance use disorder but do not meet the threshold for residential treatment, KPEP offers outpatient treatment services while in CRS residential programming. A substance abuse assessment is conducted to determine the appropriate level of care, with weekly group and individual treatment sessions varying based on assessment.

During the referral process, agents may also recommend clients be enrolled in the KPEP Hospitality Vocational Training program. This program provides classroom and hands on training in the hospitality industry. Residents who complete the program gain the certifications, skills and experience they need to enter the work force. Certifications include OSHA, CPR/First Aid, AHLEI (American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute) and ServeSafe.

CRS provides a cost-effective alternative to incarceration, incorporating the structure, treatment and programming that are crucial during the early stages of the recovery process and helping the client develop the tools necessary to become a productive member of society.
