“This gift is an investment in our clients’ health, self-discipline, and the second chance they’re working hard to earn.” Tiffany Flaska, Program Manager
KPEP recently received a generous donation of exercise equipment from the Planet Fitness location on Henry Street in Muskegon. The gym, which had recently upgraded its machines, reached out to KPEP President and CEO Bill DeBoer to offer 15 pieces of gently used equipment including treadmills, elliptical machines, Arc Trainers and a stair stepper. Each KPEP residential facility benefited from this gift.
At KPEP Muskegon, for instance, the equipment is installed in a newly repurposed room next to the facility’s common area and is already making a daily i
mpact. Residents can access the machines between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., providing a convenient and consistent outlet for physical activity.
KPEP Muskegon houses between 35 and 45 men and offers both residential and outpatient programming. While the facility features an outdoor recreation space with a basketball hoop, the new indoor fitness area gives residents a weather-independent way to stay active—especially for those who prefer walking or cardio workouts.
Flaska emphasized that the benefits go beyond physical fitness. “This gift is an investment in our clients’ health, self-discipline, and the second chance they’re working hard to earn.”
The donation also reinforces KPEP’s broader commitment to supporting residents’ mental health, which is integrated into every KPEP facility.
“Exercise is an important outlet—not just for physical health, but for mental health, too,” Flaska said. “Every time someone works out, it gets the endorphins moving, lifts their spirits and boosts morale.”
KPEP welcomes opportunities to partner with local businesses and community organizations that support its mission of rehabilitation, recovery, and reentry.
