Each quarter, we’ll answer the questions we hear most often about our program—what services we provide, who we serve and how the referral process works. Importantly, this newsletter is also an opportunity to share what matters most to us: what we believe in.
First, we believe people can change.
If we didn’t believe that, we shouldn’t be in this business. People make mistakes. Most of our clients have made serious ones, often resulting in multiple felony convictions. Our job is to help them make the changes needed to become productive, contributing members of our communities. Every KPEP program follows best practices in the field and is evidence- based.
Second, we believe in integrity—doing what we say we do.
All staff members are expected to practice the highest standards of honesty, ethics and sound business practices. We respect the dignity and worth of every person and the rights of individuals to privacy, confidentiality and self-determination.
Third, we believe in personal responsibility.
At KPEP we provide the opportunity and structure for men and women to take personal responsibility in all areas of their lives. I like to say that if we expect them to take responsibility for their mistakes, we should also give them credit for their successes.
And fourth, we believe in a sense of urgency.
We expect our staff to represent KPEP in ways that build trust and respect with peers, clients and the public. Our staff is responsive and accessible to those we serve.
I am proud of what we have accomplished in my 42 years at KPEP—39 as its CEO. In that time, we have helped tens of thousands of people in the communities we serve. Relaunching this newsletter is a way to share their stories of change, and I hope you enjoy reading them.
